Every house on the real estate market is NOT in foreclosure

This month, I released a special report “Ask Staging Diva: Can I grow a home staging business in a depressed economy?”

Foreclosure crisisToo many of us are being sucked in by all of the negative news coming from every direction and not stepping back to look at things from a more balanced perspective.

Throughout the months of March and April, I will be doing three posts a week to this blog to help you see why things aren’t really as bad as the media would like us to believe.

For example, you might have heard that the only houses on the market right now are foreclosures, but that’s not the case. Some homeowners are losing their homes, but others need to move for all the usual reasons: marriage, divorce, growing family, job transfer, downsizing and retirement.

Furthermore, the governments in both the U.S. and Canada are taking unprecedented action to slow the foreclosure rate and stabilize the market.

The National Association of Realtors® (NAR) hailed the U.S. government for passing its stimulus bill that “expands the home buyer tax credit, an important housing component that will help shrink housing inventory, bring stability to home values and move the country closer to an economic recovery.”

NAR president Charles McMillan believes that many of the actions called for in the government’s economic recovery plan should result in lower mortgage rates and fewer foreclosures. The same can be said for Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

Touting that most homes on the market are in foreclosure makes for a great news story, but don’t depend on the media to spin the angle around for you.

Is this a myth that’s been keeping you from starting a home staging business? Please add a comment below and continue this discussion. You should also take advantage of my FREE special report “Ask Staging Diva: Can I grow a home staging business in a depressed economy?”
